Track Your Energy Usage With A Smart Thermostat

Sometimes people ask, "How come my bill is higher when I haven't adjusted my thermostat?"

The truth is, they answered their own question. Nothing impacts your energy use more than the outside air temperature. And since June was much hotter than May, if you didn't take steps to counter it, your energy use drastically increased.

Look at the graphic. It's the tracking data from a smart thermostat (from one of our employees). The graph on the left shows the unit ran significantly more in June than in May (blue indicates AC running, orange indicates heater). This particular smart thermostat even lets you track usage day to day.

Smart thermostats are a great way to track your energy use and control your costs. HVAC systems are the biggest users of electricity, so keeping an eye on how often they're running is a great way to keep costs down.
