Plat Submittal/Approval

Platting is a process by which property boundaries are established, most commonly to subdivide a tract of land for individual residential lots (a residential subdivision) or to otherwise create multiple tracts of land. 

Plats are handled one of two ways within Huntsville Utilities' service area:
1. Plats within the City of Huntsville boundaries are submitted for approval through the City of Huntsville Planning Commission, which routes them to Huntsville Utilities' Engineering Services Department.

2. Plats outside the City of Huntsville are submitted directly to Huntsville Utilities" Engineering Services Department. Plats must be accompanied by a digital file. Plats must be accompanied by a digital file. Digital plats should be submitted using East Alabama State Plane Coordinates NAD 83 and NAD 88 Vertical Datum, and should be in .dwg version 7 or later or in .dgn format.
