Thank You For Visiting hsvutil.org/We_Care!

We hope you take advantage of this information. There are many ways to lower your utility bill, as well as get assistance for utilities, rent, even groceries.

Financial Assistance

Agency Assistance - Call 2-1-1: 2-1-1 is a nation-wide helpline available anywhere, operated by United Way, with assistance information for financial, mental and other needs. They have local info on assistance for utilities, rent, groceries, etc,. for qualified applicants. They also have operators that speak 180 different languages. Dial 2-1-1.

LIHEAP energy bill assistance -LIHEAP is a federally-funded program that helps eligible low-income households pay for their home energy bills. LIHEAP may prioritize applicants based on need and income, as well as households with vulnerable populations, including the elderly, disabled and families with young children. In the Huntsville Utilities service area, LIHEAP is administrated by Community Action of Huntsville/Madison & Limestone Counties. They can be reached at (256) 851-9800 or visit their website, https://www.caa-htsval.org

For more information, as well as a Frequently Asked Questions page, visit https://energyright.com/residential/energy-assistance.

Payment Arrangements - call HU’s Customer Contact Center at (256) 535-1200 to see if you qualify for installment payments. This option allows the customer to make a partial payment towards the unpaid balance and divide the remaining amount into one to four monthly installments. The installment amount will be due with the monthly billing for the agreed upon term. No additional agreement will be available until the customer’s account is paid in full. When a customer signs an Installment Plan, they waive the right to any review concerning the validity of the bill.

Average Monthly Billing (AMB) - Huntsville Utilities’ Average Monthly Billing Program is designed to allow for a more even distribution of utility payment amounts by making averaged payments based on a 12-month history. This results in a fluctuating Average Monthly Billing amount due each month (or rolling average) and eliminates considerable deferred balances being carried forward. The Average Monthly Billing Program is not designed to save money nor is it designed for customers that need to make payment arrangements on monthly bills.  Visit https://www.hsvutil.org/residential_services/about_your_bill.php for more information and submit the form to see if your utility account is eligible (restrictions may apply).

Energy Efficiency

Home Energy Survey Program (HESP) – HESP is a program that HU offers customers an on-site home survey with a printed detailed report of recommended energy efficiency upgrades specific to the home. There is a $50 fee for the survey that will be included on your next bill. The survey includes:
*Attic Insulation Inspection
*Duct Work Conditions and Air Flow Review
*Air Leak Evaluation
*HVAC Unit Inspection
*Energy Habit Recommendations
