The biggest change from the NWS is the time for the storms to be in the Huntsville Utilities service area has been moved to 8pm - midnight (was previously 10pm - 2am).

Here is the latest from The National Weather in Huntsville regarding tonight’s threat for severe weather:

The Huntsville Utilities service area is under a slight risk for severe weather (level two out of five).  A line of thunderstorms, some possibly severe, will cross north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee from 8pm Wednesday through 4am Thursday.  While the primary hazard is damaging winds, a tornado cannot be ruled out. 

For the Huntsville Utilities service area, the storms are expected from 10pm to 2am. 

This system brings an increased risk of limbs, trees, and other debris being blown into power lines.  If you discover a downed power line, do not approach, or attempt to drive over it.  Stay far away and contact us immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448).  This is also the number to call for reporting a power outage.

Huntsville Utilities is closely monitoring the weather situation and has crews on standby to respond to any service issues. 

Customers are advised to monitor local media and The National Media Weather Service website (www.weather.gov/hun) for updates throughout the day.

The only major change from the National Weather Service concerns the timing of the storm system, which is now expected in the Huntsville Utilities service area between 11pm and 2am Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

NWS has placed the Huntsville Utilities service area under as slight risk for severe weather on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 (level 2 out of 5).  A line of thunderstorms, some possibly severe, will cross north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee from 8pm Wednesday until 2am Thursday morning.  The primary hazards are damaging winds and a threat of tornadoes.  The storms are expected in the Huntsville Utilities service area between 10pm and 1am.
