Weather Alert for Tuesday & Wednesday (April 5-6, 2022) (Updated)

Here is the latest from The National Weather Service in Huntsville regarding the severe weather threat for today:

The northwestern portion of the Huntsville Utilities service area is under a slight risk for severe weather (level 2 out of 5 on the NWS scale), while the southeastern portion is under an enhanced risk (level 3 out of 5). 

The primary threats with this system are damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail. 

The system is expected in the area between 7:00pm and midnight this evening. 

This means there is a greater risk of limbs, trees, and other debris falling into or bringing down power lines.  If you discover a downed line, do not approach it or try to drive over it. Stay far away and call Huntsville Utilities immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). This is also the number to call to report a power outage.

Huntsville Utilities is closely monitoring the weather situation and has crews standing by to respond to any weather-related service issues. Customers are advised to monitor local media and The National Weather Service website (www.weather.gov/hun) for additional information as it becomes available.

Here is the latest from The National Weather Service in Huntsville regarding the weather situation for today and tomorrow:

While no severe storms are expected in the Huntsville Utilities service area today, we can expect the rain to continue until approximately 1:00pm this afternoon.  On Wednesday, the northwestern portion of the service area is under a “slight” risk of severe weather (level 2 out of 5) while the southeastern portion is under an “enhanced” risk (level 3 of 5).  The primary concern will be damaging winds, though tornadoes cannot be ruled out.  The timing for tomorrow’s weather threat is from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. 

This means a greater risk of limbs, trees, and other debris being blown into and bringing down power lines, especially in saturated ground.  If you see a downed power line, do not approach it or attempt to drive over it. Stay far away and contact Huntsville Utilities immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). This is also the number to call to report a power outage.

The Huntsville Utilities service area is under a threat for severe weather on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  Tuesday is currently seen as a conditional threat, meaning there is a lower confidence in storms becoming severe due to the lack of instability, but if there is an increase in instability, there will be a higher confidence in the storms becoming severe. 

The primary threats for Tuesday are strong winds, small hail, and heavy rainfall, and the time window is late Tuesday morning in the early afternoon. 

On Wednesday, the northwestern portion of the service area is under a slight risk for severe weather (level 2 of 5) while the southeastern portion is under an enhanced risk (level 3 of 5).  These storms are expected to develop ahead of and along a cold front Wednesday afternoon into the early evening.  The primary threats for this system are damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail. 

This means there is a greater chance of limbs, trees, and other debris blowing into and bringing down power lines. If you see a downed power line, do not approach it or attempt to drive over it.  Stay away and call us immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448).
