Here is the latest from the National Weather Service in Huntsville regarding today’s severe weather threat:

Most of the Huntsville Utilities service area is under a marginal risk for severe weather, with a small portion of the western edge of the service area under a slight risk.  The potential impacts with this weather system are damaging winds (up to 41 mph) and heavy rains that could lead to flash flooding, though tornadoes are also possible.  We are under a wind advisory until 7:00am tomorrow.  A flood watch will go into effect at 4:00pm and run until 7:00am tomorrow.  

The window of severe weather for Madison County is from 6:00pm to 10:00pm tonight.  

There is an increased risk of limbs, trees, and other debris being blown into and bringing down power lines during this weather event.  If you see a downed power line, do not approach it or attempt to drive over it.  Contact Huntsville Utilities immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448).  This is also the number to call for reporting a power outage.  

Huntsville Utilities is closely monitoring the weather situation and has crews on standby to respond to any weather-related service issues.

Strong to severe storms are expected Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday morning.  Damaging winds up to 40mph and tornadoes cannot be ruled out.  The more certain threat, however, is flooding from heavy rainfall.  

The timing for the severe portion of this system in the Huntsville Utilities service area begins at 5pm Tuesday afternoon.  

This means there is an increased risk of limbs, trees, and other debris being blown into and bringing down power lines.  If you see a downed power line, do not approach it or attempt to drive over it.  Contact Huntsville Utilities immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448).  This is also the number to call for reporting a power outage.
