Here is the latest from the US National Weather Service in Huntsville on today's severe storm threat:
 
The most significant change since yesterday's update is the timing of the storms, which is now pushed to 5pm to 10pm this evening. The central and northwestern portions of the Huntsville Utilities service area is under a slight risk for severe weather while the southeastern portion is under a marginal risk.
 
The main threats are damaging winds, hail, and a few tornadoes.
 
This means an increased risk of limbs, trees, and power lines being brought down. If you see a downed line, do not approach it or attempt to drive over it. Call us immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). This is also the number to call to report a power outage.
 
Please note that our area is under a flood watch, with total rainfall amounts of three inches expected.
 
Huntsville Utilities is closely monitoring the weather situation and has crews standing by to respond to any service-related issues. Customers are advised to monitor local media and the National Weather Service Website (www.weather.gov/hun) for additional information throughout the day.

The Huntsville Utilities service area is under a threat of severe storms Tuesday afternoon which could also lead to flooding. The window for this storm system is 3pm to 9pm on Tuesday, with the flood threat running from 6pm Tuesday to 6am Wednesday.

The primary threats are strong to severe storms with strong winds along with areal, flash, and river flooding. Tornadoes cannot be ruled out. This system brings an increased risk of limbs and trees falling into power lines, especially with heavily saturated ground. If you see a downed power line, do not approach it or attempt to drive over it. Call us immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). This is also the number to call to report a power outage.
