Huntsville Utilities’ Jake Kilgore Wins State Award

Jake Kilgore, Lead Process Coordinator in the Energy Services Department of Huntsville Utilities, was recently honored by the Code Officials Association of Alabama with the Rising Star Award.

The CODE OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION OF ALABAMA (COAA) was formed in 1968 and assists Alabama municipalities & counties with the organization & maintenance of adequate code enforcement departments, codes, & ordinances.

The COAA presents this award to those they recognize as outstanding new code officials and future leaders in the building code industry who have excelled in education, interest, and in serving the profession and the community through dedication and example.

Jake was also nominated as the local Vice President of the COAA for 2022.

“Jake’s work with Huntsville Utilities’ New Homes Program has been key in the City of Huntsville’s decision to enforce the Energy Code,” said Leon Wass, Energy Services Supervisor for Huntsville Utilities. “Without Huntsville Utilities’ offer to provide hundreds of hours of labor and thousands of dollars in training and equipment, this would probably not be taking place. It’s a significant driver to the growth of our city,” he added.

“Jake and the entire Energy Services team are a critical element in Huntsville Utilities’ service to our community,” said John Olshefski, Senior Vice President of Customer Care for Huntsville Utilities. “We appreciate his leadership and dedication.”

Jake Kilgore was previously recognized by Home Energy Concepts for scoring in the top 10 percentile of Home Energy Rating System (HERS) raters in the nation. He and the rest of the Huntsville Utilities Energy Services team certify approximately 2,100 new homes per year and have administered more than $15 million in energy efficient upgrades on more than 1,600 homes.
