Green Mountain Water Update

Huntsville Utilities wants to keep the residents on Green Mountain updated on progress for water infrastructure improvements now that construction is underway.

This project was approved in June 2023, and after completing design and obtaining regulatory approval in November 2023, construction specifications were completed and released to potential bidders in March of this year.

As of August 15th, necessary land easements have been acquired and crews have installed 1,200 feet of 12-inch ductile iron pipe from Bailey Cove Road to the site of the new booster station. After being awarded the bid, the contractor ordered material and cleared the ground for the booster station. In addition to building the booster station, the contractor has begun the installation of 2,700 feet of welded steel pipe along HU’s power line up the mountain eastward from Green Cove Road.

The project is on schedule to be completed in May 2025.

We appreciate the cooperation of the residents during this project. There are many simple steps residents can take to limit their water use, but the most effective is to reduce lawn and landscape watering to every other day. You should also make sure your sprinkler system is not running on rainy days, and only water your yard during the cooler portions of the morning or evening. Additionally, dishwashers and clothes washers should only be run with full loads. There is also a library of videos on water conservation on the Huntsville Utilities YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@HuntsvilleUtilities).
