Weather Alert for Tuesday - July 30, 2024

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a heat advisory for our area beginning at noon today and lasting until 7pm this evening. Heat index values of 109 are possible.

To control your energy use during the heat remember:
Use fans/ceiling fans (ceiling fans should spin counter-clockwise)
Close curtains/blinds on windows facing the sun
Set your thermostat for as high a temperature as is comfortable
Keep doors and windows closed
Make sure your AC filters are clean
You can find more tips on our YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/huntsvilleutilities)

If working outside, stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles.
Limit strenuous outdoor activities.
Check on elderly neighbors and those without AC.

In addition, a marginal risk for severe weather exists this afternoon. This is currently a low to medium chance.
If they do develop, the threats will be damaging winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.

If severe storms do develop, remember not to approach or drive over downed power lines. Report these, as well as any power outages, by calling 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448).

We are closely monitoring the weather situation and have crews on standby to respond. Customers are advised to monitor local media and the National Weather Service website (weather.gov/hun) for updates throughout the day.
