Heat Advisory Through Friday (July 5, 2024)

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Heat Advisory for our area beginning at 1pm Wednesday (July 3) and lasting through 7pm Friday (July 5).

High temperatures through Friday will rise into the lower to mid 90s. Some locations on Wednesday and Thursday could see upper 90s.

Afternoon peak heat index values are forecast for 105-109.

Some locations on Thursday may see heat indices in the 110-113 range.

If dewpoints/temperatures trend warmer, an excessive heat warning may be issued (especially on Thursday).

There are medium to high (60-90%) chances of showers/storms on Friday, which may limit overall heating.

Some stronger storms are possible, with heavy downpours and gusty winds the main threats.

Remember that nothing impacts your energy usages and costs as much as the outside air temperature. To help control your usage, remember:

Use fans/ceiling fans (ceiling fans should spin counter-clockwise)
Close curtains/blinds on windows facing the sun
Set your thermostat for as high a temperature as is comfortable
Keep doors and windows closed
Make sure AC filters are clean
