Weather Alert for Thursday and Friday (April 18-19, 2024)

Here is the latest from the National Weather Service in Huntsville regarding the severe weather threat for today and tomorrow:

Two rounds of storms are expected. The first is Thursday afternoon and the second is early Friday morning. For the first round, the Huntsville Utilities service area is under a marginal risk (level 1 of 5). The risk is lower for our area on Friday. In both rounds, the main hazards will be damaging winds and hail. The time window for our area on Thursday is 5pm to 8pm. For Friday, it is 2am to 5am.

From a utility standpoint, the greatest risk is limbs, trees, and debris being blown into and bringing down power lines. If you see a downed line, do not approach it or attempt to drive over it. Stay away and call us immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). Even if a line does not appear energized, it may be live, and wet ground can allow the electricity to travel farther.

Also, do not attempt to remove trees, limbs, or debris from power lines. Report this type of situation to the same number. This is also the number to report a power outage.

We are closely monitoring the weather situation and have crews ready to respond to any service related issues. Customers are advised to monitor local media and the National Weather Service website (weather.gov/hun) for updates.
