On Monday, we received word of a person in an orange and yellow vest going door to door to residences in northeast Huntsville. He said his name was "Mr. Carter" and that he was with Huntsville Utilities. He was telling customers he was there to collect past due balances on bills.

Once we learned of this scam, we posted the information to all our social media channels and alerted local media, who helped us get the word out.

Today (Thursday), we have learned a man calling himself "John Carter" is calling customers, claiming he is with Huntsville Utilities and that he needs credit card or other personal financial information in order to process a refund.

THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT GIVE THIS PERSON ANY PERSONAL FINANCIAL INFORMATION!

Additionally, we have been informed of a scammer targeting business customers. The caller tells them they owe money and can only pay him over the phone because we have closed our lobby due to COVID. THIS IS NOT TRUE! Our lobby is open. Do NOT give this person any financial information.
