Severe Weather Threat for Wednesday (Sep 6, 2023)

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has placed the Huntsville Utilities Service area under a slight risk for severe weather this afternoon/evening (level two of five).

There is a low to medium chance (30-60%) of thunderstorms moving into our area, with some becoming strong to severe. 

The time window for the Huntsville Utilities service area is 5pm to 8pm, with the following threats possible:
Frequent lightning
Gusty to damaging winds
Flooding due to heavy downpours
Hail up to quarter-sized

Huntsville Utilities is closely monitoring this developing weather situation and is standing by to respond to any service issues. If you see a downed power line, do not approach it or attempt to drive over it. If you see limbs or debris on a power line, do not attempt to remove it. In either of these cases, stay far away from the power line and call us immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). This is also the number to call to report a power outage.

Customers are advise to monitor local media and the National Weather Service website (weather.gov/hun) for updates throughout the day.
