Huntsville Utilities Wins Three Awards From Alabama Water Pollution Control Association

Huntsville Utilities Water Supply continues demonstrating their excellence by winning all the categories entered in this year’s Alabama Water Pollution Control Association (AWPCA) Best Operated Plant/Distribution System Award season. AWPCA was founded in 1946 by water and wastewater professional operators. The goal of the association was to promote the advancement of knowledge of water supply and treatment of potable water and the reclamation of wastewater. Today, membership is at over 400 representing operators throughout the state. AWPCA continues to be a tremendous resource in supporting Alabama water and wastewater operators.

Consideration for the AWPCA Awards requires a thorough plant inspection resulting in scores based on standardized criteria. Some examples of what is inspected include treatment of each unit process, complexity of the treatment process, process control and monitoring, laboratory quality control, records, equipment calibration, plant appearance, and safety programs.

This year, the Southeast Water Treatment Plant received the 3-year award for Best Operated Plant for the category Surface Water Plant 20.1-30.0 MGD. Lincoln-Dallas Water Treatment Plant won Best Operated Groundwater Plant for >100,000 population served. Last but certainly not least, the Huntsville Utilities Distribution System was awarded Best Operated Distribution System for systems serving >100,000 meters. Winning these awards is a testament to the commitment to provide the best and safest water to our customers and a demonstration of the skills and hard work performed to make this possible.
