Materials Pricing and Water Rate Modification
As Huntsville Utilities continues discussions on our proposed water rate modification, we want to answer some of the questions you’ve posted.
The last water rate modification was in 2016. Since then, we have continued to operate an award-winning water system. However, supply chain and inflationary pressures have caused sharp increases in materials. For example, water valves in 2016 cost $493.00. Today those same valves are $1,144.22 (an increase of 132%).
In 2016, one foot of 8” water pipe cost $16.06. After a slight decrease, it is now up to $29.85 per foot (an increase of 86%).
We know a rate modification is not the news anyone wants to receive, but we also know that having a safe, reliable and clean source of water is important to this community and we are committed to ensuring that we provide it at the best possible value.
