US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama has issued a heat advisory from 11am to 7pm today, with heat indexes as high as 110 possible.

Customers are advised to consider the following steps to keep their energy use down:
Use ceiling fans and other fans to create a breeze.
Close curtains/blinds on windows facing the sun.
Keep outer doors closed as much as possible.
Make sure your AC filter is clean.
Turn off lights and electronic devices that are not in use.
Wait until after sundown to run dishwashers, washers, and dryers.

In addition, NWS is forecasting the threat of severe weather this afternoon (“slight risk” - Level 2 of 5). The primary threats are damaging winds and heavy rainfall, and the expected time for the Huntsville Utilities service area is between 4pm and 8pm.

If you see a downed or obstructed power line, do not approach it or drive over it. Stay away from it and report it immediately to 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). This is also the number for reporting a power outage.

Huntsville Utilities is closely monitoring this evolving weather situation and is ready to respond to any weather-related service issues. Customers are advised to monitor local media and the National Weather Service website (weather.gov/hun) for updates throughout the day.
