Passing of Dr. James "Jimmy" Wall, Jr.

Retired Huntsville Utilities Natural Gas and Waterworks Board member Dr. James “Jimmy” S. Wall, Jr., died Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in Huntsville, Alabama. 

Dr. Jimmy Wall, a native Huntsvillian, was appointed to the Huntsville Utilities Gas & Waterworks Boards in July 1995 by the Huntsville City Council and subsequently reappointed until he completed his final term in July 2019. During his eight consecutive terms, Dr. Wall served in the capacities of Chair, Vice-Chair and/or Secretary of the boards. 

A dentist by profession, Dr. Wall also served on the Huntsville City Council from 1970 until 1994. His leadership contributed to many economic development projects that helped to sustain the vitality of Huntsville. 

As a capstone nod to his service, in 2017, the Huntsville Utilities Waterworks Department opened the Owens, Statum, & Wall Southeast Water Treatment Plant in Grant, Alabama. Co-named in honor of Huntsville Utilities former President & CEO Anthony “Tony” F. Owens, former Waterworks Board member Mr. Stanley “Shot” Statum, and the statesman of the boards Dr. James “Jimmy” S. Wall, Jr.
