Dangerous Heat and Storm Potential for Saturday - July 1, 2023

EXTREME HEAT/STORM POTENTIAL: JULY 1, 2023

Here is the latest from US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama regarding today’s dangerous heat and risk for storms:
An Excessing Heat Warning is in effect until 8pm today. Heat indices of 115 are possible.
Extreme temperatures can lead to greater energy use. To limit your energy use (and costs) while keeping cool, remember these tips:
Use fans (ceiling fans should spin counter-clockwise).
Close curtains/blinds on windows facing the sun.
Set your thermostat as high as is comfortable. Do not risk your health.
Keep outer doors closed as much as possible.
Make sure your AC filters are clean. Replace them if they are not.
Use a microwave for cooking instead of the oven.
Turn off lights and appliances/devices that are not in use.
Wait to use larger appliances like washers, dryers, and clothes washers after the sun goes down.
There is also a 20%-40% chance of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and hail. While the timing of these storms is not certain, the NWS currently has them forecast for the afternoon/evening.
To report a downed power line or power outage, call 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448).
Customers are advised to monitor local media and the National Weather Service website (weather.gov/hun) throughout the day for updates.
