Weather Alert for Wednesday (Jan 18, 2023) UPDATED

8:30am Wednesday:
Here is the latest forecast from US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama regarding the severe weather threat for later tonight:
A line of showers and thunderstorms will move through the area from the middle of the evening into the overnight hours.
Gusty winds of up to 60 mph are possible, though this will be predominantly to the west of I-65.
The tornado threat is very low.
However, this type of system does bring a risk for trees, limbs, and other debris to be blown into or to bring down power lines. The threat of lightning also means there is a chance of power outages.
If you see a downed power line, stay far away and call us immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). Remember that a power line can be energized even if it does not appear to be, and the electricity from a downed line can travel through the ground up to 35 feet (even further if the ground is wet).
This is also the number to call to report a power outage.
We are closely monitoring the weather situation and have crews standing by to respond to any service issues. Customers are advised to monitor local media and the National Weather Service website (www.weather.gov/hun) for updates throughout the day.

From The National Weather Service in Huntsville:

A line of strong to severe storms is expected to sweep through the Tennessee Valley Wednesday night.
Damaging wind gusts are the main threat with these storms, although a low-end threat of a tornado cannot be ruled out (mainly along and west of I-65).
Gust winds up to 35 miles per hour are also expected Wednesday afternoon and evening.
A wind advisory may be issued during that time frame.
