Here is the latest from US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama regarding our risk of severe weather:
Severe thunderstorms are possible tonight, entering the Huntsville Utilities service area between 9:00pm and midnight. The primary threats with this weather system are heavy rain (with flooding), damaging winds, and hail. Tornadoes are possible, but the larger tornado threat is in northwest Alabama.
This type of weather system means there is an increased chance of limbs, trees, and debris being blown into and taking down power lines. If you see a downed power line, do not approach it. Treat it as if it is energized even if it does not appear to be. Stay far away and call us immediately at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). This is also the number to call to report a power outage.
Huntsville Utilities is closely monitoring the weather situation and has crews standing by to respond to any service issues.
Customers are advised to monitor local media for updates and to have multiple ways to get weather alerts.
The National Weather Service in Huntsville is forecasting a possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms for our area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning (Nov 29-30, 2022).
The primary hazards with this storm system are tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail, and flooding.
This type of weather event increases the chances of limbs, trees, and other debris blowing into and bringing down power lines.
If you see a downed line, do not approach it. Assume it is energized even if it does not appear to be. Report it immediately to 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448). This is also the number to call to report a power outage. Simply sending us a message through social media will not start the restoration process.
