Employee Benefits Overview!

Huntsville Utilities believes our benefit offerings play a large role in what makes Huntsville Utilities (HU) such a great place to work! We offer a wide variety of voluntary insurance plan options for our regular full-time employees to choose from that benefit our employees and their family members. Following are brief summaries of some of our benefit plans:

Benefits

Medical Insurance Benefits
Huntsville Utilities offers two health care plans. These plans include reasonable co-pays and deductibles, air medical coverage, wellness/preventive care, point-of-sale prescription coverage and a prescription drug card program depending on the plan selected.
Employee Assistance/Mental Health Substance Abuse
Huntsville Utilities offers a mental health/substance abuse program to all full time employees and dependents that are currently enrolled in our Group Health Plans. In addition to the Mental Health benefits, we also offer an Employee Assistance program.
Dental Benefits
Huntsville Utilities offers two dental plans to our regular full-time employees .  This National Dental program offers access to dental providers in many areas throughout the United States. This program is designed to promote quality and cost-effective dental care.
Vision Benefits
Huntsville Utilities offers two vision plan options for eye care needs.
Supplemental Coverage
Huntsville Utilities offers several voluntary insurance plans. These plans include Cancer, Accident, Critical Illness, and Short-Term Disability policies.
Life Insurance
To provide protection for employees and their families, a basic level of life insurance is provided by the company at no cost to all regular, full-time employees. In addition to basic life insurance, we offer options for supplemental and voluntary life insurance.
Retirement Benefits
All regular, full-time employees are automatically enrolled as a member of the Employee's Retirement System of Alabama. The ERS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. A defined benefit plan provides employees with a specific benefit at retirement by calculating retirement benefit based upon a formula.  Pension Benefits are payable monthly for the lifetime of the member.
Deferred Comp
Huntsville Utilities provides two deferred 457(b) compensation plans to all full-time employees. These plans are available to provide a convenient method of accumulating money to help meet future financial needs. These plans make it possible for employees to defer income and the payment of taxes on those deferred amounts until a later date.
Educational Benefits  & Opportunities
Huntsville Utilities provides many opportunities to employees for training purposes both on and off site. Huntsville Utilities has a genuine interest in the development of our employees and recognizes the necessity of continuing education to fill present and future requirements. Tuition Assistance and reimbursement is also available to employees who meet program criteria.
Annual Leave and Sick Leave
Annual leave benefits are provided to regular full-time employees for the purpose of rest and relaxation away from work. Annual leave is accrued each pay period and can be carried over from year to year until maximum allowable is reached. Any unused annual leave in excess of the maximum balance will be credited to sick leave balances. Sick leave is also accrued each pay period and is available when you are absent from work due to a personal sickness or injury.
Holidays
Our regular full-time employees are eligible for company paid holidays.
